Tips For Hanging Vintage Records
Vintage records are not only collectible but they can make great wall décor too! You can hang them as is or put them in frames. You can collect them by artist era or label. Learning how to hang them for proper effect is key.
You have a fabulous old record which go great with the décor in your dining room. You mark your spot and drive a nail into the wall over the server and slip your old record over it. Viola!
Happy with the completion of your task, you take a step back. You tip your head to one side and then the other. You squint at the framed record. Something is amiss, but you can’t figure out what it is.
If you have found yourself staring at something you have just hung up trying to figure out why it doesn not look right, your not alone. There are a few common mistakes that look funny to the eye, but that you don’t quite know how to fix. Here’s some tips that might help when trying to hang hanging décor on a wall:
Hanging Records 2 In A Frame:
Large records or frames with more than one record mounted can be the focus of your décor so you must make sure you hang it in a spot that is appropriate for the size and focus. Where is the best spot to hang large décor? Try over a couch, behind the dining set, over a fireplace or on a feature wall. A feature wall is where the placement of furniture or the layout of the home naturally guides the eye to a wall - a great place to feature special records.
Hanging Small Records:
Grouping smaller pieces can add interest and keep them from getting “lost”. Using similar or matching frames and matting make this look more pleasing. A smaller piece can look strange if you try to put it in the middle of a wall so you should hang it lower on the wall and near a piece of furniture.
Hanging Records In Groups:
You can group items of any size together for an interesting display. Try to have them spaced approximately 3 inches apart. Lay the pieces out on the floor first so that you can find the perfect arrangement. Then measure carefully and make your holes for hanging.
HEIGHT:
Like other hanging art framed records should be hung with the center of the picture at eye level. That means the center should be about 60 to 66 inches from the floor. If you've visited a gallery you will see that the frames are not lined up by their top or bottom edges but that the pictures are all centered at the same height.
If your records will be viewed from the couch or while sitting at the table, then it should be hung at sitting eye level.
Anything hung behind the couch should be placed no more than 8 or 10 inches above the back of the couch.
When you use these easy tips, you’ll be able to create great wall décor that looks like it was arranged by a professional.
