Using Decorative Bed Pillows For A Designer Look

Have you ever been to a professionally designed home or seen a design show on TV and admired the way the designers used decorative bed pillows to make the bed look so inviting?
Maybe you even went home and tried to do it yourself in your own bedroom. But if your efforts at plumping up the pillows for professional design have come out looking less than desired, here’s some tips on how to get those pillows looking perfect.
First off, you have to get the right decorative pillows to put on your bed. You don’t really want to use the pillows you sleep on because you want these pillows to have fancy decorative fabric and you would want to ruin knows by growing in your sleep! you want to buy fabrics that match in color with your bedspread and they don’t have to be all plain you can get some patterns in there to what you want to make sure that you have the same colors in them to tie it all together.
Depending on the look you going for, your pillows can be made from lushly textured materials like velvets and brocades or they can be more plain like the ones pictured above. You just want to be sure that they match the overall color scheme and décorating theme of the bedroom.
You’ll want to put them in layer s so you want to buy some larger ones for the back, some that are a little less tall for the middle and then some shorter but longer ones for the front. In the photo, we’ve used a very long but not very wide pillow with fringe on the end - the fringe adds a nice decorative touch.
The arranging of the decorative pillows on the bed itself is the key to making them look good. You can’t lay the pillows all flat like you do when you’re sleeping or you’ll just end up with a pile of pillows that won’t look decorative at all.
What you want to do is take the back row and set the pillows up straight on their edges so they sit up against the headboard. Depending on the size of the pillows you’ll want to use three or five for that back row.
Now you want to put two pillows ( or perhaps four if used five In the back row) in front of these and set them also on their edges so they lean against pillows in the back row. You want them to be slightly shorter than the pillows behind them so that you can see the tops of the pillows in the back row.
For your third row of pillows, it’s always fun to use a longer bolster type of pillow or a couple of really decorative pillows that are smaller. Place those leaning against the two pillows but make sure they don’t obscure the pillows themselves.
If you arrange the pillows of the bed this way you’ll see it gives a better nice plumped up comfy look but, of course, you have to take them off when you want to sleep in the bed and then put them back on in the morning!
