Achieving That Rustic Bedroom Look

A rustic bedroom can look great in any type of home and you don't have to have a log cabin to pull it off either. Today's rustic rooms borrow decorating ideas from English, French and even some Swedish country decor. Rustic decorating can be charming, course, unfussy or unfinished but it has appealed to many and is a comfortable and interesting way to decorate your bedroom.

The key to getting a rustic look in the bedroom is to include natural woods along with items that have aged surfaces and rough finishes. You want to bring a little bit of the outside in and keep the lines simple and the materials natural.

The flooring in a rustic bedroom should be wood - preferably pine and old. You want to keep the floor mostly bare with a few scatter rugs here and there. You can wax and hand polished the floor to make it really glow. Oriental rugs, although they seem quite formal can actually go really well with a rustic look in at a warmth that matches perfectly with the wooden floors.

There is a lot of really neat furniture that you can get for your rustic bedroom design. If you look on liner and catalog you can find beds that look like they are made out of logs and furniture with birch bark but these can be kind of expensive. If you can't afford this just stick to some simple pine furniture or maybe furniture with hand-painted designs from nature like animals birds or country scenes. Use of latter backed chair or Windsor chairs as accents. For dressing table, it's a great idea to use an old worn pine kitchen table.

If you can't buy new furniture, you can give your old furniture a little bit of a rustic look by brushing on a thin coat of paint or stain and then rubbing most of it off while it's still wet. Applying a wood stain lightly over the furniture paying particular attention to the corners and areas where there would be a lot of use can give it a weathered look.

Rustic accessories like baskets, twigs, pine cones and flowers can add the finishing touches to your bedroom decor. Throw in some kerosene lamps or old tin lamps for decorative purposes but use modern lighting that is either brass or something made to be rustic looking. Wrought iron goes well with this book and you can use Rod Ion sconces were chandeliers to add some zip.

Colors are important when decorating rustic bedroom and you should stick with neutral, earthy tones like beige, and blues.
