Achieving That Rustic Bedroom Look
A rustic bedroom can look great in any type of home and you don't have to have a log cabin to pull it off either. Today's rustic rooms borrow decorating ideas from English, French and even some Swedish country decor. Rustic decorating can be charming, course, unfussy or unfinished but it has appealed to many and is a comfortable and interesting way to decorate your bedroom.
The key to getting a rustic look in the bedroom is to include natural woods along with items that have aged surfaces and rough finishes. You want to bring a little bit of the outside in and keep the lines simple and the materials natural.
The flooring in a rustic bedroom should be wood - preferably pine and old. You want to keep the floor mostly bare with a few scatter rugs here and there. You can wax and hand polished the floor to make it really glow. If you can't buy new furniture, you can give your old furniture a little bit of a rustic look by brushing on a thin coat of paint or stain and then rubbing most of it off while it's still wet. Rustic accessories like baskets, twigs, pine cones and flowers can add the finishing touches to your bedroom decor. Throw in some kerosene lamps or old tin lamps for decorative purposes but use modern lighting that is either brass or something made to be rustic looking.
