Devising A Bedroom Color Scheme
Picking a bedroom color scheme is one of the most difficult tasks of decorating and also one of the most important.
The first thing to consider is if you want your bedroom to be soothing and relaxing like in our zen bedroom design or if you want it to be bright and stimulating like this exotic Moroccan bedroom.
A harmonious color scheme will give you the soothing restful bedroom retreat that you long for at the end of a hard day. This design uses soft muted colors – tans, off whites, light greens. The floors, walls, and bedding are of matching tones and the accessories can be a darker or lighter shade of the main color to add a bit of contrast. The harmonious color scheme has little pattern and relies on a medium tonal quality to the colors used.
A contrasting color scheme is bright and energetic. If you’re the kind of person that wakes up ready to go, then this type of bedroom might be for you. Use bright contrasting colors to highlight the architectural or interesting features of your bedroom. Bright bedding and accents create a contrast that is stimulating. Reds, yellows, and oranges are great colors for a contrasting scheme.
If you have a favorite color, you may want to use that as a monochromatic color scheme. If you love purple, you may want to paint the walls a light purple, install curtains and bedding in a medium purple and add accessories in a darker purple. Of course, all 1 color can be boring so you will want to add another color for interest. Bright yellow might add a little punch, or a soft green if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. An all white bedroom with black or red (or both!) accents is popular for a retro 50’s or contemporary look.
