Faux Finish Bedroom Paint Idea Guide
Using a faux finish is a great bedroom paint idea that can transform the look of your room and add an elegance that a regular paint finish just doesn’t have.
When choosing paint for your bedroom walls, make sure to pick a color combination that goes with your overall bedroom scheme. Many of the faux finish paints have 2 colors and you want to make sure both of these match your bedding and accessories (as well as each other!).
But, I’ve never done faux painting before!
Don’t worry, you won’t ruin your bedroom. All of the faux painting ideas are actually quite easy once you get the hang of it and if you find that you don’t like the way it looks in your bedroom, you can simply paint over it!
One thing to keep in mind is that for most of these painting ideas you will need to buy special paint for your bedroom walls that will help you create the look. In addition, you might need special tools and make sure to get the appropriate size brushes. Your local store should be able to help you on that. Don’t try to replicate the faux finish if you don’t have the right tools or paint as this will only lead to frustration.
Here’s some great faux finish ideas for painting your bedroom:
Suede Painted Walls - This paint technique will make your bedroom walls look so soft and buttery you’ll want to reach out and touch them every night before you go to bed. It goes great with a contemporary bedroom and can add a rich look to an elegant bedroom design. This technique uses a brush and roller in a 2 stage process.
Color Washing - The soft shades and textures created with a color washing technique go great in antique and contemporary bedrooms alike. Create the look of leather or an old world fresco finish using a variety of techniques with decorator paints and glazes.
Sponging and Rag Rolling - create a great texture on your wall without the mess of plaster. These finishes can be soft and subtle or harsh for the look of stucco. Paint is textured using a sponge or rag depending on the desired look.
Textured Stone Finish - Use a trowel and special paint to get an aged plaster finish in a variety of patterns. Great for an Italian style bedroom. You can also use this finish to embed small objects like tiles or beads to add a unique creative touch.
Hint: Practice your technique on a big piece of cardboard or poster board first and then start painting your bedroom walls once you have perfected your technique!
