Using and Caring For Dupioni Silk Bedspreads
Dupioni silk bedspreads can add luxury and elegance to any bedroom.
The texture of the silk makes it a wonderful addition to any design and helps to add interest to a non-patterned bed ensemble. If you are going for an elegant design than you may want to consider this kind of a spread.
Dupioni silk bedspreads come in many colors and can go with several of our decorating themes. Paired with sheets that are 1 shade lighter or darker and exquisite embroidered pillows, they will be perfect for an Italian or Romantic French design. For a modern design, pair them with a contrasting color sheet that matches the color of the walls and add splashes of your accent colors with pillows to plump up the bed.
An Asian design might look great with all red bedding in silk and silk blends.
Most Dupioni silk bedspreads are not 100% silk but are a blend of silk and polyester. If you choose a spread that is about 50% silk and 50% polyester you will still be able to experience that luxurious silky soft feel. The higher the amount of the silk, the more luxurious the look and feel of the bedding.
Of course, silk does have it's drawbacks and one is that it needs to be cleaned very carefully. Silk can be hand washed before it is sewn together, but since your dupioni silk bedspreads will have a backing and inner material, dry cleaning is necessary. Be careful not to get your silk spread wet as it can leave a water stain around the edges of where the water sat. If you do get water on it, blot up as much as you can and then hit it with a blow dryer to completely dry it - if possible keep blotting at the edges of the water as you blow dry.
Store your dupioni silk bedspreads carefully making sure that no sunlight or insects can get at it.
