Using Window Roller Blinds With Fabric For The Bedroom
Window roller blinds have come a long way since those horrid plastic shades of the 1950’s.
Today, roller blinds with fabric can make a simple but decorative treatment for any window.
Roller blinds consist of a flat panel of fabric or stiff material with a straight edge on the bottom and some sort of pull which hangs down from a spring loaded roller. By day, they roll around the roller out of sight at the top of the window, at night you pull them down to block out light and gain privacy.
You can use roller blinds alone or as part of a coordinated window treatment. If you are decorating a zen or contemporary bedroom, you might want to try some simple roller blinds made with a non patterned fabric. A childs room, or themed room like a beach theme or safari theme might benefit from roller blinds with fabrics or decorations that match the theme. For a more lavish look, try adding some fringe or beading to the bottom of the blind. If you want to soften up the look around your window, add some curtain panels. To hide the roller at the top of the window, add a valance or swag.
Roller blinds made from stiff paper texture can be hand decorated using stencils, stamps or even paint. If you are creative, you can add a unique touch to each of your windows. Since the bottom is often the only part seen on the blind, you can add some snazzy by gluing on fringe or edging that you can find in the fabric store.
You can make your own roller blinds from any medium weight fabric. Pick materials that match your bedding or other items in the room. You must stiffen the material with a stiffening spray which should be available in the fabric store. To make things even easier, you can usually find all the hardware – the spring, the roller, the hanging brackets and the spray in a kit!
